The more bearable of the second Star Wars trilogy, Episode III is still a huge disappointment. This is not an epic saga like The Lord of the Rings — this is a stiff, boring political intrigue movie.
The story attempts to be a bit more mature and deep, without really convincing. The myth of the creation of Vader is amazingly lame — he was basically left to die by Obi-Wan and Palpatine had to come rescue him. Wow, such evil. Not.
The movie is still enjoyable, with some good fights and special effects. And there’s Natalie Portman too.

I’m a big fan of Woody Allen in general. I love his dialogs and his acting. Above all, I find him incredibly funny; I tend to laugh my socks off in his movies.
Having said that, Melinda and Melinda is not one of his more memorable movies. It’s not specially witty, funny, or psychologically deep. I always marvel at how Allen can get unique performances out of his actors, and M&M is a classic example. They all sound, move, and act like Allen himself — which I guess can be good or bad depending on your tastes.

A story of life in a small village in the French countryside during World War II under the collaborationist regime, this movie is so stiff you won’t break it with a battleaxe.
Cate Blanchett makes an honest effort but her acting alone can’t save this wreck. The writing lacks any imagination and follows strictly predictable and conventional paths. What sinks this movie, though, is that it doesn’t take any risks, doesn’t really makes an effort to provoke any kind of feeling in the spectator. This movie comes straight from a first-year cinema school manual.

One of the worst handlings of pace and timing I’ve ever seen. Months and kilometers can go by without a hint.
The director being Indian hardly seems a reason to sprinkle the film with Indian references. A heavyweight anti-heroine in the novel, Becky Sharp is no more than a shallow character asking men to feed her. Boring, sparkless, unsatisfying.

Tremendously funny movie. Contrary to other offerings by the Farrelly brothers, Fever Pitch is mostly devoid of jokes of a scatological or sexual nature. Barrymore is probably the freshest and most natural actress ever. Fallon is perfect in his role. Good for the soul.

Post-modern youths involved in a post-modern romance. Bloom is looking for meaning; Durst is looking for love. The script is a bit sloppy, resulting in a much longer movie than strictly necessary. The ending is easy to predict. Less deep than it believes itself to be. Dunst is, as always, quite nice to look at.
