Much better than I expected, The Chronicles of Narnia is a well made, atmospheric and entertaining movie. The kids put on a good performance, the special effects are not top-notch but do the job, and it manages to create tension and suspend disbelief.
I’m especially thankful that Disney didn’t mess with the original story and didn’t try to water it down by including silly, cuddly characters. Even Peter Jackson was unable to resist the temptation to do so in The Lord of the Rings.
The beaver in chain-mail alone is worth the price of admission. Recommended.

The bad: this movie is slow. So slow it’s boring at times. One just wants to give up and go eat something.
The good: aside from the slowness, it’s very entertaining. The effects (sound included) are spectacular; Kong has real personality and is more adept at expressing emotion than 80% of Hollywood actors. There’s a fight between Kong and three dinosaurs that is breathtaking (if you’re into that kind of thing). Except the fight lasts a good five minutes more than it should: did I say this movie is slow?
And of course, there’s Naomi Watts.
Rating: Good.
