Confident in his Sherlock Holmes-caliber rational and analytical mind, Hopkins plans and flawlessly executes the perfect crime. A towering, unassailable figure, arrogance is his only drawback.
Cocky, self-absorbed and with no excess of qualms, Gosling is a public lawyer destined for bigger things. Will he be able (and willing) to risk everything to stop Hopkins?
The struggle develops through solid acting, slow, deliberate pacing, and, at times, above average photography. The combination results in good entertainment.
Rating: Very Good.

A tale of love, greed, fidelity, and commitment, this enjoyable comedy slowly weaves the viewer in its web, until he finds himself on the edge of his seat, intrigued and entertained. Based on a play by Oscar Wilde, it contains the expected wit, social critique, clever dialogue and likeable characters. It is set in a gorgeous Italian town, complemented by beautiful photography.
Even Scarlett Johansson’s lack of talent can’t derail this film.
Rating: Very Good.

After the latest stiff and soulless Star Wars episodes, Serenity is a
welcome breath of fresh air. If it were set in the Star Wars universe,
it would be titled “The adventures of Han Solo, if he had never come
across those pesky Rebels”.
Serenity thankfully dismisses meetings, political intrigue and deep, brainy
analyses to concentrate on fighting, low-atmosphere
combat, and the unraveling of a significant mystery. This mystery
involves, of course, a race of berserk cannibals and a pretty young
girl “conditioned for combat” and “of extraordinary grace”. Just like it
should be.
Rating: Very good.

A clash of three personalities. Pacino and Russo’s past addictions have left them scarred for life and trying to maintain a fragile grip on sanity. McConaughey’s life is mostly devoid of sense after his football career ended with a pulverized knee. His only skill (an uncanny ability to predict football scores) is what brings the three together.
The movie is never dull; it presents an interesting psychological insight into people that unconciously set themselves up for failure. Russo’s unconditional love is moving, as is her desperate fight for a normal existence.
Rating: Very Good.

This movie tells the story of a woman who fights against discrimination and harassment while working in a mine. It’s a story worth telling, and for the most part, it’s very well told.
I didn’t like two aspects of the film. First, the ending is simply atrocious. There’s no excuse for it. Second, it never tells the male half of the tale: why did most men harass the women, and why some didn’t.
In the end, I’m recommending it because of the engaging story and because it’s very competently told. There are many things in this film for fans of the art to enjoy.
Rating: Very Good.
